Financial Services Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineer to modernise financial risk platforms using C#/.NET, microservices and modern data technologies in Basel.

As a Financial Services Software Engineer, you will join a Risk IT team of approximately 12–15 engineers and contribute to the modernisation of business-critical financial risk management systems. The environment is transitioning from a legacy monolithic architecture towards scalable, containerised microservices.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Contribute to the continued development of the Risk IT microservices stack in C#
• Refactor and decompose an existing .NET Framework codebase into smaller components for migration to .NET Core and OpenShift
• Support the transition towards a Cloudera-based Data Lake platform
• Replace legacy interfaces to Banking IT systems with a Kafka-based streaming architecture
• Work closely with business users and Risk Analysts to gather and refine requirements
• Deliver stable, incremental improvements with a strong focus on testing and software quality
• Participate in rotating business-hours support to maintain system stability and performance
• Contribute to projects focused on automating risk operations and modernising the application landscape

• Senior-level software engineering experience

• Professional development experience with an object-oriented language such as C#, Java or C++, with willingness to work with C# and codebases

• Previous professional experience within financial services, either directly within banking/financial/insurance organisations or through software development services delivered to financial institutions

• Familiarity with at least one financial product domain, such as fixed income, equities or foreign exchange

• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures and software design patterns

• Experience with relational databases, such as Oracle or SQL Server

• Ability and willingness to collaborate directly with business users to define and refine requirements

• Experience working within Agile development teams and iterative delivery environments

• Strong problem-solving skills and a logical, methodical approach

• Proactive and pragmatic mindset with ownership of delivery and quality

• Fluent English
